SmartWatch – All Signals, No Benefit

I had previously written how I liked the Sony Smartwatch3 I purchased for a little under €100. Less than six months on from the purchase, the watch is no longer on my wrist.

The Sony SmarWatch3 did everything I asked of it, notified me of events, messages and calls without having to remove my phone from my pocket. It also was as good an activity tracker as my previous devices, Fitbit One and a Mi Band.

So why did I abandon the device? At the end of the day, it didn’t make the slightest difference to my life. I was no more active, I was no more productive and having to charge a watch every 36 hours was becoming a real pain.

I also considered the physical appearance of the Sony SmartWatch3. It is a large piece of black rubber, more suited to a teenager / twenty-something and not a professional guy who has passed his 40th birthday.

The final straw came when I needed the stopwatch, and when I went to setup the timer, the watch battery was dead. Being no longer able to justify the device, it followed the path of so many other devices and was handed down to a family member.

Google and Sony have announced that the Sony SmartWatch3 will be getting the new version two of Android Wear, which is extremely positive considering how old the device is.

I still think the device is an interesting piece of technology for anyone who wants to experiment with a branded smartwatch without having to spend a large amount of money.

My dalliance with SmartWatches is now over
