Postcard from ... Restaurante Tres Coroas

The culinary options when booking a family sun holiday may not be high on the list of requirements, but when the need arises, a special occasion or being bored with multiple pricing variations of chicken and chips, gems can be found.

One such occasion required a restaurant option above the norm during our recent visit to Albufeira, and with Tripadvisor confirming the Facebook recommendations we had received, we seeked out Restaurante Tres Coroas.

A booking is required for this hidden away gem, and with either some brass neck luck or some planning, there is a table at the far corner of the outdoor seating area that provides a wonderful view of the ocean between the two buildings the restaurant is set back from.

Whilst a view is always nice, the food is the star at the Restaurante Tres Coroas. For starters we had Mussels in Garlic Sauce and Goats Cheese in Honey, both full of flavour. A white wine sangria joined us, delicate and provided the right notes for the setting.

Attentively served by professional waiters, with a dose of humour to accompany their pride in the establishment, our main courses arrived. Salmon with potatoes and salad along with Steak Portuguese style. Both plates of food delivered in flavour.

There is a menu for little people, the usual fair of pizza, chicken nuggets and lasagne. Whilst children are catered for, Iā€™m not sure I would bring them to the Restaurante Tres Coroas, as the service is timed to allow you to enjoy the complete experience of the food, and not to rush you out to get another cover in. The waiters also mentioned they would be happy to tailor a dish for individual requirements.

The star of dessert was the homemade Lime Cheesecake, that made the Dessert of the Day - Coconut Cake look average. The Chocolate Mousse was also ordered by our party, and was inhaled so fast I could not provide any opinion of it apart from confirming that a chocolate lover had a massive smile on here face.

Pricing was very reasonable too. Two days later I was in a standard restaurant on the Marina strip, and found the pricing in this restaurant to be higher than the Restaurante Tres Coroas. As a price guide, our party of three enjoyed a three course meal, with Sangria for ā‚¬110!
